When to keep a camera hidden - home security camera.

The Camera Hidden home security has it's place in your overall home security plan. There are only limited circumstances where I would keeping your surveillance cameras hidden. The main reason is I much prefer to prevent a crime from occurring in your home in the first place!

If you have an ongoing theft or tampering problem in or around your home, then having hidden cameras may be the best way to identify who the culprit is. If your intent is to “catch a crook” then you need to make sure the crook has no idea the camera is there – if he does suspect something then the gig is up. He will most likely look for another easier target. Did I mention I prefer your home security measures to be more obvious to prevent criminal activity?? Well I digress...

Lets look at an example of how you could set up your surveillance camera where it will be the most effective.

First if the problem is outside your home, there are a couple of options on how to use the hidden camera.

A cheap hidden security camera solution would be to use a small hidden camera inside a window facing the outside where the crime is likely to occur. Just don't change anything else if your intent is to identify the crook. Remember these are really only useful if the problem is ongoing and you need to get video evidence for the police.

Graffiti is often a recurring problem in neighborhoods. If you happen to have a window with a view of the area where the crime often happens, then you may have an opportunity to be of great help to the police. These crimes are most often in the middle of the night when no one is around to witness them. Depending on the amount of light in the area, you may need a night vision security camera to be able to pick up anything at all. But if there are any lights shining toward the camera they can really mess up the picture. A regular color hidden home security camera is going to cost less and will usually be good enough with today's technology. You will be doing the police, and your neighborhood a great favor if you come up with hard evidence to identify the culprits.

Thefts from yards can also be recorded in the same manner, but to have only a camera hidden and not out there obvious as a deterrent, you run the risk of losing more property in the process. If yard thefts are your problem, more lighting along with an obvious outdoor home security camera would be a better option – again prevention is always a better option if possible.

In some cases you may need to add lighting as well as the hidden camera to get clear enough video to identify the suspect. Fuzzy images are not much help in court. Sometimes kids are so persistent in spray painting their graffiti, they will still come back again even if more lighting is added. That is when a hidden surveillance camera may be the best option to stop future events – get the bad guys identified!

Hidden spy cameras inside your home are another story entirely. They can be useful if you have ongoing theft problems or other illegal activity inside your home while you are away. Hidden cameras have become so small and easy to hide that you can put one in virtually any room in your house.
